The main body of the text is a description of each of the 64 principal experiments which Martin carried out upon the Air-Pump, 40 of which are illustrated on the folding plate. Two editions appeared of this work, the first published in 1766 and this new edition which is far more rare, ESTC locates 4 copies (Oxford; Cambridge: Boston Athenaeum; New York Public Library).
