London: Printed for and sold by the Author, First edition, 8vo (205 x 125 mm), vii, [1], 358pp., lower blank margin of title neatly repaired, coloured frontispiece of a double-acting steam engine, and 13 folding lithographic plates, marbled endpapers, later nineteenth century morocco, decorated in blind, all edges gilt, upper cover spotted otherwise a very nice copy. A second part dealing with Magnetism, Electricity, Optics and Astronomy, was proposed but was never published. Provenance: With the book stamp of James Brown with his motto 'Floreat Majestas', presentation inscription to front fly-leaf "Presented to James Brown is testimony of his ability as a young mathematician. Dumfries Academy, July 1855."
