London: Printed by Luke Hinde, First edition, 8vo (200 x 125 mm), ix, [1], 11-112pp., contemporary panelled calf. Bownas sailed for America in 1702, arriving in Potomac River, Maryland. Soon after he arrived he had a public dispute with George Keith and William Bradford, and suffered imprisonment for his belief. He was put in the county gaol of Queen's County, Long Island. He later wrote an amusing account of the Labodies, a community resembling the Shakers. Provenance: Contemporary ownership signature of James Cotton; later bookplate of T. Braithwaite. Sabin, 7097.
