Sir John Sinclair inaugurated the British Wool Society at a large sheep-shearing festival held in 1791 at Newhalls Inn, Queensferry. He is credited with initiating these sheep-shearings which were later developed by Francis Russell, the fifth Duke of Bedford. Kress, B2206; Goldsmith, 14668.
