HALL (Joseph). Iron Scrap, on the issue of an Old Shoe Heel, being the origin of the Discovery of Pig Boiling.1864

London: Simpkin, Marshall, & Co. First and only edition, vi, [7]-49, [1]pp., with a actual small oval photographic portrait of Hall mounted to centre of title page, original limp green patterned cloth, title in gilt on upper cover. Joseph Hall (1789–1862) developed and pioneered a new process of making wrought iron. This became known as 'pig boiling' or 'wet puddling'. The wrought iron was of high purity, and the process was less wasteful and required less time and labour. JISC locates just 2 copies in the UK, Cambridge University Libraries and Nottingham University.
