Brewman, First edition, 4to (283 x 225 mm), [2], 100, [2]pp., 5 engraved plates, 2 folding engraved genealogical tables, a very good ex-library copy with several unobtrusive blind-stamps, contemporary half calf, marbled boards (a little rubbed), neatly rebacked, contracting morocco lettering-pieces. A description of this famous ruin, mainly about its owners who were in turn, the medieval Lords Cromwell, the Earls of Shrewsbury from 1426 until the death of the 7th Earl in 1617, when it passed to William 3rd Earl of Pembroke and on his death in 1630, to the Saviles. Ultimately ownership of the manor was split into numerous different parts until it was awarded to Imanuel Halton who pulled most of it down. Holmes, 232.
