London: Bernard Quaritch, 3 Vols., 4to, xvi, 222, [2]pp., ; 36pp., followed by 103 chromolithographed plates printed in gold and many colours by Griggs; 172pp., 22 chromolithographs of bindings, volumes 1 & 3 bound in red calf calf, volume 2 in dark green morocco, all three a little rubbed. A good example of of this monumental sale catalogue issued by Bernard Quaritch. The catalogue an indexed collection of 2371 historic bindings, of which 125 are beautifully illustrated. Among the examples are bindings in the Gothic style, bindings stamped with blind tooling, cameos, designs executed for J. Grolier and H. Deux, French, English and Scotch bindings of the 16th, 17th and 18th c., examples of Venetian gilt leather, English silver embroidery, etc.
