STERN'SCHE DRUCKEREI.. Schrift-Probe der von Sternschen Buchdruckerei in Lüneburg.1844
Lüneburg: von Stern'sche Buchdruckerei, 8vo (191 x 125 mm), 66ff. printed on rectos only, the specimen includes 23 leaves with "Fraktur" typefaces, 21 leaves with "Antiqua" fonts, 20 leaves with vignettes and ornaments, and several decorative faces, original printed wrappers, faded, corners of wrappers slightly chipped but overall a very good copy. A very rare type specimen issued by the "von Stern'sche Druckerei", the oldest printing house still in existence and continuously owned by the same family since the 17th century. The history of the "von Stern'sche Druckerei" goes back to 1614, when the brothers Johann and Heinrich founded their publishing house in Lüneburg. They quickly went on to add a printing shop as well as a type foundry and gained fame for their well-designed Bibles. Today the printing house is still led by the Stern family. It's possible that the company issued other type specimens in its long history, but if so, they don't seem to have survived. Not listed in OCLC; KVK locates two copies: Lüneburg, Ratsbücherei; Göttingen, Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek.
