London: Bernard Quaritch Ltd., First edition, 4to (285 x 225 mm), one of 200 copies, coloured frontis., 68 plates (of which 7 are in full colour), some occasional minor spotting, orig. publishers green cloth, lettered in gilt. A clear and very fine reproduction of Rivière's bindings, many of which display disturbing images of snakes and skulls. Riviere seems to have been heavily influenced by the East at this time. An excellent study of the work of the English bookbinder of French descent. Provenance: With the circular armorial bookplate of R. N. H. Moore Stevens.
