[Ipswich:] Printed by William Burrell, First edition, 2 parts in one, small 8vo (178 x 106 mm), 61, [1]pp., includes: 'An alphabetical catalogue' which has a separate titlepage; pagination is continuous, bound in recent boards with MS title on upper cover, The Town Library of Ipswich is a collection of 700 titles published between 1474 and 1760. The library was founded in 1599 and established in the former dormitory of the Ipswich Blackfriars in about 1612; the last titles being added in 1773. Many of the books were given by over one hundred 17th and 18th-century Suffolk and Ipswich worthies, with their names given against each donated book within the catalogue. A full account of the library is given in John Blatchly's The Town Library of Ipswich, (The Boydell Press, 1989), a copy will be included with the sale of this catalogue. Copsey, 1288; ESTC gives 3 locates in the UK (BL, Oxford and Suffolk Records Office) and just the one copy in NA (Yale).
