The library was opened in 1828, when it contained 1,700 volumes, mostly relating to the City of London. Provenance: Presentation inscription to title 'For the Athenaeum Library, Liverpool, from the Guildhall Library Committee', neat small stamp of the private Athenaeum Library Liverpool on the title page and with faint de-accessioned stamp on the inside of front cover.
