The lectures were delivered by John Opie, who held the position of Professor in Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. These lectures cover various aspects of painting, including design, invention, chiaroscuro, and colouring. The book also includes a memoir by Mrs. Amelia Opie, and provides an insight into John Opie's talents and character.
