Bulmer and Co., First edition, 4to (268 x 210 mm), xxiii, [1], 265, [1], clxxiipp., 6 plates including mezzotint engraving (portrait of Tipu Sultan) by Samuel William Reynolds (light brown stain to lower margin), 3 folding copper-engraved maps and plans (1 of them hand-coloured), folding copper-engraved order of battle of the British troops, folding aquatint view of Seringapatam, 2 folding printed table, slight crease to prelims, text age-toned, offsetting from plates, nineteenth-century half calf, marbled boards, red leather spine label lettered in gilt. Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Admiral John Markham, (1761–1827), Royal Navy officer. As a junior officer he served in the American Revolutionary War; with his signature in ink to front-free endpaper.
