First edition, small 4to (240 x 175 mm), xliv, [2], 333, [1]pp., 5 mounted photographs called for (frontispiece, title vignette, and 3 plates), ground plan of Lydiate Hall, some occasional light foxing, original publishers green cloth, bevelled boards, black decoration, spine lettered in gilt. A scarce photographically illustrated work, Lydiate Hall was a black-and-white half-timbered house which was accompanied by a private chapel. It was a known Catholic house during the time of Elizabeth I of England. It now stands ruined and was given a Grade II listing in 1968.
