London: Printed for James Ridgway, Second edition, royal 8vo (242 x 148 mm), xx, 438pp., 60 hand-coloured plates, front endpaper and title spotted, some occasional foxing, cont. calf, boards with blind decorative border, spine divided into six compartments, second lettered in gilt direct, others tooled in blind, all edges gilt, some minor rubbing otherwise a nice copy. This finely illustrated work embodies the results of a series of experiments upon the nutritive qualities of grasses. They were conducted by Sinclair, who was for 17 years head gardener at Woburn Abbey, under the direction of John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford and Sir Humphrey Davy. First published as a large folio in 1816 with grass samples. Provenance: With the Munden House armorial bookplate. Freeman, 3426.
