This was the first publication in English on a surgical cure for crossed eyes and describes the cases treated, as well as some new views on the anatomy and physiology of the muscles of the eye. In the preface the author gives credit to Professor Dieffenbach, of Berlin, ".... of being the first surgeon to put into operation the division of muscles for the cure of deformities of the human eye."
