Taylor, at the Architectural Library, 4to, vii, [1] + 8pp., of publishers' catalogue at end, engraved title and 64 engraved plates by Thomas Langley after Batty Langley ( (numbered I-LXII, A, B), title lightly browned with a early plan of a house sketched in pencil to verso, occasional spotting or soiling, minor pinhole worming to blank lower inner corner of last 8 plates, recent full calf, cover slightly stained, black spine morocco label lettered in gilt. First published as 'Ancient Architecture, Restored and Improved' (London: 1742) and re-issued under this title. "A principal aim of this treatise was to demonstrate a system of order and proportion in Gothic architecture that would equal that already established for Classical architecture."—Harris.
