London: Printed for Robert Faulder, 2 Vols., royal 8vo (270 x 165 mm), 8, xvi, 106; [4], 86, [3]pp., with a final errata leaf, engraved frontispiece and title both with hand-colouring to first volume, engraved title to second volume also hand-coloured, 191 hand-coloured engraved plates of flowers as called for, the following plates were never issued: vol. 1 pls. 101 and 104, vol. 2 pl. 20 (see Henrey, Sitwell), some light foxing, plates with particularly wide-margins which dwarf the uncut text leaves, recent cloth-backed boards. John Miller (1715-1780), born Johann Sabastian Müller in Nuremberg, came to England in 1744 and remained here for the rest of his life. He was a botanical artist and engraver of considerable repute and came to the attention of the great naturalist Linnaeus through the connection of John Ellis. Linnaeus had nothing but praise for the artist, stating that the plates were "more beautiful and more accurate" than any he had ever seen. Henrey, 1156; Sitwell, p. 120.
