BUSBY (Charles Augustin). A Collection of Designs for Modern Embellishments suitable to Parlours, Dining & Drawing Rooms, Folding Doors, Chimney Pieces, Varandas, Frizes, &c. on 35 Plates, By C. A. Busby, Architect.1808

Taylor, 4to (275 x 225 mm), hand-coloured engraved title (counts as plate 1) followed by 24 engraved plates, numbered 2-25, plates 2-11 and 20-23 are hand-coloured, 16-19 and 24-25, uncoloured aquatints, and 12-15 uncoloured line-engravings, title-page lightly toned, handsomely bound in recent calf calf to style, marbled boards, spine with five raised bands, tooled in gilt with contrasting red morocco label lettered in gilt, a nice copy. A rare architectural pattern-book issued by a chief designer of Regency Brighton, Bingham calls this "one of the prettiest pattern books produced during the Regency." It brought the young unknown several commissions including the Commercial Rooms at Bristol. In 1817 he migrated to North America, however, he only received one major commission, the Bolingbroke Theatre, in Petersburg, Virginia. He returned to England in 1820 and entered into partnership with Amon Henry Wilds at Brighton in 1822, here they were responsible for much of the development of Regency Brighton.
